Brazilian fintech EBANX picks Ex-Chipper Cash VP as its new director for Africa


EBANK, the Brazilian fintech company which recently expanded into Africa has announced the appointment of  Wiza Jalakasi as its new director for Africa. 

Jalakasi was previously the vice president at Chipper Cash.

TechCabal reports that Jalakasi’s role at EBANX will be to expand and develop the fintech’s operations across Africa, strengthen the connections between its global merchants and African consumers, and provide in-depth knowledge about the flourishing digital market in Africa. 

“Jalakasi will play a key role in expanding EBANX’s footprint in the African region, which is the next growth frontier for digital payments and the digital market in several verticals, like SaaS/cloud, streaming, digital games and online retail.’’ said Paula Bellizia, President of Global Payments at EBANX.

‘’He is an important addition to the team, bringing all his expertise in solving local payments for international companies that want to connect with millions of African companies and digital consumers,” Paula added.

Commenting on his appointments, Jalakasi said Joining this company is a fantastic opportunity to cement the credibility of the payments industry and digital economy in Africa and help to connect global players to this huge market which is full of potential. 

EBANK launched its operations and payments solutions in Africa in September of last year and is currently live in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria.

EBANX president of global payments Paula Bellizia said during the launch that Africa was a very important market for them.

“Africa is now bursting with growth potential. Digital adoption and consumption of online goods and services have accelerated rapidly within its countries, and investment capital has been pouring into the region.” he said.

“After studying the region and building a deep understanding of its local players, entities, and challenges, we are diving into Africa to provide local payments solutions that will help build the digital economy at a rapid pace, drive broader financial inclusion for its population, and provide greater access to a variety of goods and services from global merchants interested in building their market share there.” he added.

EBANX has been providing digital financial solutions in Brazil since 2012 with an estimated one billion transactions completed in 15 countries over this period. It has been distinguished for facilitating payments to global tech companies such as Spotify and Uber.
