[Ethiopia] Ethio Telecom launches modular data center to streamline IT and network infrastructure

Ethio Telecom has launched a Tier III-ready modular data centre in Ethiopia. Powered by Huawei, the data center is located in the Gola Sefer district of the capital, Addis Ababa.

Ethio Telecom says the data center is equipped with five POD (Points of Deployment), 16 cabinets per POD, which can support 10 servers per cabinet. The total capacity of the facility can reach 800 servers.

“The newly built data centre will firstly serve existing service provision such as mobile money and business support systems, and the extra capacity could be used for new business such as colocation and cloud service in the future,” Ethio Telecom said in a statement.

It is also equipped with high-capacity generators and power storage batteries in case of power interruption.

In addition, Ethio Telecom says the data center will be expanded to meet the needs of future Value Added Service, Contact Center and OSS systems, and the project will have its own emergency backup.
