Truecaller is launching its developer program in Kenya which will enable 3rd party app developers, digital businesses, and startups in Kenya to utilize Truecaller’s free software development kit (SDK).
As a result, these businesses will benefit by instantly verifying users on their apps by leveraging their Truecaller account credentials.
Truecaller says they have experienced traction in Africa after opening up its Africa headquarters in Nairobi.
“With this phenomenal growth that we are seeing, we want to increase our footprint and expand our local team here in Kenya to cater to this growth. Moving forward, our ambition is to engage more deeply with the local startup community to help them grow their products by leveraging the Truecaller platform,” said Zakaria Hersi, Director of Partnerships, Africa at Truecaller.
Truecaller has been in Kenya for a while now, and the company is even looking for ways to expand into the market. As of now, Truecaller is the second highest-grossing app in the country. The company also revealed that Truecaller app usage in the country currently stands at over 1.5 million daily active users.
In Kenya alone, the Truecaller app is blocking and filtering out more than 8.2 million calls, up 86% compared to last year. The number of SMS blocked by the app stand at 17 million every month, which represents a 21% increase compared to the previous year.
In the African region, Truecaller currently has 23 million daily active users. Truecaller identifies more than 1.1 billion calls monthly, with 100 million of these calls being spams or scam-related.
From the company’s revelations, spam calls have increased immensely in the African region by 120% compared to 2018.
