Qualcomm 215 Mobile Chipset for Budget Devices Announced


Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 200 Series chipset for budget-oriented devices has finally received a revamp with a successor to the obsolete Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC launched back in 2015. In the new 200 Series, Qualcomm has ditched the Snapdragon name and refers to the new chip as Qualcomm 215 mobile platform.

The chip brings along improvements in the budget smartphone category($100 and below) with new powerful ARM cores to enhance performance and additionally introduce new features to the budget level devices.

Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform is made of four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.3Ghz which brings a 50% CPU performance boost compared to its predecessor. Also, the new 200 Series now uses 64-bit architecture and is paired with an Adreno 308GPU, which the company states has a 28% boost in terms of gaming.

In terms of connectivity, Qualcomm’s new chip brings some notable features including Dual SIM with Dual VoLTE support, NFC, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Ultra HD Voice Calls.

Thanks to the new chip photography in budget phones will also be enhanced by accommodating either Dual 13MP or Dual 8MP camera lens, which will include both depth sensing and optical zoom. For video recording phones powered with 215SoC will be able to record up to 1080p videos. Apart from that, expect Quick Charge 1.0 included in budget smartphones which will boost charging speeds up to 70%.
