Upcoming WhatsApp feature will enable you to share your WhatsApp status to Facebook and Instagram

Facebook will soon let you share your WhatsApp stories to different platforms.  Rolled as a beta-feature on June 24, the new feature allows users to share their WhatsApp stories to Instagram, Facebook, Gmail and even Google Photos in one click.

You might be worried that this could mean the accounts will be linked but no. According to WhatsApp, the feature will utilize the iOS and Android data-sharing APIs, which means you can be able to share your stories without connecting the two accounts. It is purely based on on-device apps.

The feature will also let you set automatically to share your WhatsApp stories directly to the other applications every time you update your status.

Whether you think it’s a cool idea or sounds creepy, it depends. It is not to be forgotten that Facebook had initially stated they wouldn’t share data between the two platforms when they acquired WhatsApp in 2014 for $19bn. A promise which they broke in 2016 subjecting Facebook to pay a 122million fine to the European Commission in 2017.

Since the feature is only in beta-testing, likely, the full roll-out may not take a long period to become publicly available.

WhatsApp status feature was launched back in 2017, which has seen massive usability attracting a total of 500million users daily. With the enormous usage, Facebook won’t afford to miss the potential revenue the feature promises that’s why the company has plans of rolling out Ads on the platform beginning next year.
