Dubai Chamber of Commerce to conduct trade mission to Nairobi

Dubai Chamber of Commerce has today announced  plans to conduct a two-day trade mission in Nairobi to enhance cooperation with Kenyan businesses.

The trade mission will take place from October 3rd to 5th, 2016, at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi and it is supported by the Kenyan National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It will include 20 Dubai businessmen from a variety of sectors, who will explore new opportunities with their counterparts.

Forums and sessions will see the participation of trade experts, government agencies and regional stakeholders, as well as business owners who will hold roundtable discussions on key sectors such as agriculture and agribusiness, construction, infrastructure and tourism.

Delegates attending the event include: Charles Kahuthu, CEO and Regional Coordinator of the East Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Kiprono Kittony, National Chairman of the Kenyan National Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Admassu Tadesse, President and CEO, PTA Bank; and Amrote Abdella, Director, Startup Engagement & Partnerships, 4Afrika Initiatives at Microsoft.

The initiative falls in line with Dubai Chamber’s strategy to explore promising markets in Africa and make economic inroads in the lucrative investment areas within the continent. The Chamber has previously hosted a number of Global Business Forum events focusing on investment opportunities in Africa and plans to launch the next edition next year.

Commenting on the development, H.E. Majid Al Ghurair, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted: “Nairobi is a key regional hub in the Sub-Saharan region and provides a strategic position and gateway to the entire East African Community with over 140 million people, as well as the larger Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) market with over 450 million people.”

“We look forward to working closely with the Kenyan National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, government agencies, and other stakeholders as we deepen business and bilateral trade ties between the two countries,” he added.

On October 6-7, Dubai Chamber will extend the mission to Ethiopia, where industry experts will hold roundtable forums with diverse partners to bolster bilateral trade ties.
