IFA-Berlin

The company claims that the Satellite Radius 12 is the world’s first 4K convertible, which can be folded into a tablet or used as a laptop.

The 360-degree hinge allows the laptop to deploy in five modes: laptop, tablet, tabletop, presentation, and audience. It will be offered in a carbon gray, and a light-emitting diode (LED) backlit keyboard. The Satellite Radius 12 will be available for purchase in the US starting in the fourth quarter of 2015.

The device will be available in Full HD (1920 x 1080) or 4K (3840 x 2160) displays, with reinforced Gorilla Glass, and is powered by Intel’s latest Skylake processors up to the Core i7, paired with 8GB RAM. The company also introduces a USB Type-C port along with two regular USB ports and HDMI output on the Windows laptop.

The Toshiba Satellite Radius 12 also includes Windows Hello, which allows a user to simply log in to the PC via their face and fingerprint. The company also states that the laptop will have a long battery life, though no information was provided as to how long the device will last. It is a mere 0.6 inches thick and weighs 2.9 pounds respectively.

“Through our deep relationships with our partners at Microsoft, Intel and Technicolor we have designed a top-of-line compact PC that delivers the new gold standard in screen, sound and performance for an unmatched computing experience on Windows 10,” said Philip Osako, senior director of product marketing at Toshiba America Information Systems, in a statement.

“The Satellite Radius 12 expertly blends the latest technology into an extremely powerful, yet compact and easy-to-carry PC that is not only versatile, but durable enough to handle a highly mobile lifestyle.”
