Google’s look evolves, introduces a new logo
Google has changed a lot over the past 17 years—from the range of its products to the evolution of their look and feel.
And again they have changed things up once again. Google has introduced a new logo and identity family that reflects reality and shows users when the Google magic is working for you, even on the tiniest screens.
“As you’ll see, we’ve taken the Google logo and branding, which were originally built for a single desktop browser page, and updated them for a world of seamless computing across an endless number of devices and different kinds of inputs (such as tap, type and talk),” said Google on a blog post on its official website.
The new logo simply Google users, now that that Google is working for them. For example, new elements like a colorful Google mic will help users identify and interact with Google whether you’re talking, tapping or typing. Meanwhile, we’re bidding adieu to the little blue “g” icon and replacing it with a four-color “G” that matches the logo.
This isn’t the first time Google has changed its look and it’s probably won’t be the last, but today’s update is a great reflection of all the ways Google works across Search, Maps, Gmail, Chrome and many others.
You can see the old logo being wiped away and the new one being created at Google.com, the company’s main search page. The design retains that distinctive colour order of the previous Google logo, but the serif typeface has been replaced with a sans-serif alternative.
It’s the first logo update introduced by the brand since 2013, when it abandoned drop shadows in favour of a new flat logo.
However it is the fifth of Google’s logo in its 17-year history. The original logo, designed in Baskerville Bold, was used for just a month in 1998.
Later that year an exclamation point was added, and Google’s five colour order of blue-red-yellow-blue-green-red was introduced.
The new look comes just a few weeks after the company unveiled a new name — Alphabet — and a new holding company structure for the company.
