Airtel Kenya has provided used computers to Computer for Schools (CFSK) for refurbishment and distribution to schools across the country. This is part of the two organizations’ effort to improve access to modern technology and quality education in learning institutions.

Computer for Schools Kenya will refurbish the computers and make them available to schools. Airtel Kenya says it will work with Computer for Schools Kenya to ensure that the schools that receive the computers are also connected to the internet for free through Airtel’s Internet for Schools program. This will enable more and more students to join the program that continues to transform thousands of students’ lives accross the country, enabling them to access more educational information and improve in their education in order to become successful people in the community.

Speaking during the handing over of the computers, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi noted that the computers and free internet connectivity to more schools will enable children to have access to technology and learn using ICT, improve their access to quality of education and help them to compete on international levels.

“We are extremely pleased that CFSK is taking an interest in the success of education and realizing the importance of technology. We are committed to work with CFSK to ensure that more and more schools are connected to the internet for free through our Internet for schools program.  Airtel has given hundreds of thousands of students across the country the freedom to connect to the world of information, helping them to learn better and open up a new world of opportunities for their future.  We have provided a positive life impact for school children through better access to education,” said Adil.

While receiving the equipments from Airtel, Computer for Schools Founding Director Dr. Tom Musili said; “We are happy to partner with Airtel on this program that will see us refurbish computers and distribute them to schools. Computers have become a vital part of any child’s training in recent times. Free internet connectivity from Airtel will be a huge step towards ICT integration in our schools. We are happy to see Airtel leading the way with a program that supports development of education standards in Kenya and request other corporates to emulate what Airtel is doing to help our future generation succeed in life.”

Airtel has so far connected 167 schools across the country impacting over 250,000 students to-date, with a plan to connect at least 1 million students to the internet. Last month, Airtel partnered with Chandaria Foundation and the Global Peace Foundation to support 41 schools in Kenya in the LEAP Hubs entrepreneurship program through the provision of free internet connection.  This continues to allow students in these schools to access online resources and tools that help nurture and develop their business ideas.

CFSK is a non-profit organization established in 2002. In its thirteen (13) years of existence and functioning, the organization has distributed over three hundred thousand (300,000) personal computers fully installed with requisite software and deployed in over ten thousand (10,000) Public Secondary and Primary schools, Technical Institutes, Teacher Training Colleges, Medical Training Centres and Universities throughout the country.
