CIO100 Sixth edition survey launched


The sixth edition of the annual CIO100 survey has been launched. The CIO 100 Survey enables corporate organizations (both multinationals –MNCs – and small and medium enterprises – SMEs – to nominate and share with industry the various technology innovations that have enabled them enhance their operations.

For the second year in a row, Kommunication Ultimate (publishers of CIO East Africa) has partnered with consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers Kenya (PwC) for the sixth edition of the annual CIO100 Awards set for November 5 – 6, 2015. The theme for the 2015 CIO100 awards is ‘Measuring Enterprise Innovation and Sustainability.

As part of the collaboration, PwC will provide technical support for the CIO100 survey and also offer project management support. CIO East Africa will coordinate the application process and manage the two-day CIO100 Awards and Symposium in November at the Enashipai Resort & Spa in Naivasha.

CIO100 Awards identifies and recognizes organizations that have taken risks on emerging technology or deployed the tried-and-true in a new way. This could be an organization that has built a better business process or fostered closer collaboration; or a company that has discovered ways to get more from existing customers; to pursue new markets; to save money or just to make more revenues through the use of ICT tools.

To be selected for a CIO100 Award, an organization has to demonstrate excellence in Technology Innovation (the extent to which the organization uses IT in a new way or enabled new ways of doing business, whether internally or externally) and Business Value Delivery (i.e the measurable impact backed up by supporting data, that the project or initiative has had on your organization’s business results).

The 2014 CIO100 Mega Trends Report – compiled from the CIO100 Survey responses – found that more than two thirds (68 per cent of the 560 respondents) of respondents had used new technology for the fi rst time and saw their organization as a “front-runner” in terms of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovation by either developing new ICT or adopting technology that drives the organisation’s success and sustainability.

While commenting on the 2015 CIO100 Survey criteria, Francis Thairo, Manager, Technology Advisory unit, PwC said that entries will be rated in four areas while each organization is allowed to submit a maximum of 3 entries.

“The deadline for submissions is last week of September this year. We’ve no new categories just a new question – What’s on the Mind – which seeks to find out which new trends and technological solutions the organization would like to implement”, said Thairo.

Andrew Karanja, director, CIO East Africa lauded the continuous partnership with PwC Kenya in the CIO100 Survey. “We’re grateful to PwC Kenya for their continued collaboration and support in the CIO100 Survey. Just like in the previous editions, the CIO100 Awards is not an award for technology vendors’ products but will consider the value or revenue of technology-driven services that leverage a company’s non-technology core competency as long as the service is a natural extension of what the organization does,” noted Mr Karanja.

The inaugural East Africa edition of CIO 100 Awards – held in 2010 – celebrated 100 organizations and the people within them that are using ICT in innovative ways to deliver business value by creating competitive advantage, optimizing business processes, enabling growth or improving relationships with customers.

The regional CIO100 Awards celebrate companies from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania for their innovative use of IT. The awards ceremony is an offshoot of the global CIO100 Awards which have been held for over two decades, during which time the awards have identified and recognized 100 companies that demonstrate excellence and achievement in IT across the globe.

The awards also provide an opportunity for businesses to share with their peers about the technology innovations that have enabled or led the way to greater success for their organization.
