Periscope now available on Android

Android users will now be able to download twitter’s live-video app, Periscope app on Google play store, two months after debuting on the iPhone, Twitter has announced. This move opens up an opportunity for them to stream video to their followers on Twitter.

Twitter acquired Periscope in January 2015 and the company claims that there were more than a million downloads of the Apple version of the app during its first week.

Periscope started, with the aim of creating the closest thing to teleportation — by providing users with the best way to start or watch a live video broadcast. As a small startup, the initial launch was limited to just iOS, but now the company says it has crafted an experience that feels special on Android, yet still unmistakably Periscope.

From now, Android owners using Version 4.4 (KitKat) and above will be able to download Periscope from Google Play. The Android app will still keep all the same core features that Periscope users have been enjoying, like starting a public or private broadcast, choose to allow comments from just those you follow, and interact with a broadcaster by chatting or sending hearts.

With the application now available for Android users, they will have granular control over additional Push Notification settings, such as “First Time Broadcast notifications” (when somebody you follow on Twitter broadcasts on Periscope for the first time) and “Share notifications” (when somebody you follow on Periscope shares somebody else’s broadcast). Periscope on Android will also offer users a “Resume notification” so you can keep watching where you left off in case your broadcast gets interrupted (by a phone call or message). Replays are also saved without requiring the broadcaster to upload a file.

”This is just the beginning for Periscope on Android.  This application on has many exciting features and improvements in the works” Twitter said.
