Popular messaging service, WhatsApp has now rolled out a new update that allows users to know when a message they have sent to someone has been read by the recipient. WhatsApp has silently started rolling out a new feature in its new update that drops in two blue check marks when the recipient has read the message. Earlier, the service showed two gray check marks once the messages had been delivered. The new feature adds on to it and turns the check marks blue depicting the messages have been read.

In addition, the updated WhatsApp now comes with a Message Info screen that provides users with details of the message they send. The Message Info screen will appear on selecting a message sent and will give information about  “when your message was delivered, read or played by the recipient(s)”, reads the WhatsApp FAQ page.

The updated app is now available on Google Play. The iOS app for WhatsApp is however yet to receive the new feature.

Meanwhile, in another news, WhatsApp Vice President, Neeraj Arora has revealed that the messaging service will continue to be free of cost in India for some more time. The usual trend is, users need to pay about $1 in subscription fees annually after using the service for free for a year. However, users in India have been saved from the same, at least from now until any further announcement from WhatsApp.
