Samsung has joined the fight against Ebola and now the company has announced that it will be donating 3,000 smartphones (worth $1 million) to support the ongoing fight in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, three of the worst-hit African countries.
This announcement comes just a week after Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that he and his wife Priscilla will be donating $25 million to the Center for Disease Control Foundation to help fight Ebola.
Samsung will be donating the Galaxy S3 Neo to around 60 Ebola medical clinics through the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs. The phones will come installed with the UN’s Smart Health Pro mobile app, which will help medical staff in collecting medical data.
Quarantined Ebola patients will also be using these phones to contact their families and loved ones.
The Korean manufacturer has not stopped there. It will also be launching an Ebola SMS service in Africa and offering financial support for the purchase of hazmat suits in Ghana.
It is important to note that the donated devices will be destroyed once the virus outbreak has subsided.
