By Nixon Kanali, Nairobi Kenya
You might have heard about Google’s long-expected YouTube music subscription service. Earlier on, Android Police had reported that YouTube is preparing to release a streaming music service this year. This service would be offered in both free and premium tiers a la Spotify, and it is reportedly a separate entity from Google Play’s music service.
It is now emerging that the service will be called YouTube Music Key and will feature more than 20 million songs and videos curated specifically for YouTube.
According to Android Police,YouTube Music Key will offer ad-free music, audio-only playback (for background or screen-off listening), and offline playback. It will offer a 30-day free trial to start, after which the service will run $9.99/month giving access to “high-quality tracks – complete albums, organised into artist discographies”, specifically for YouTube with both video and audio-only streaming and offline listening.
It is not clear yet when this service is set to launch.
