Tecno Camon 17 Pro Camera Test: Are They Really Good?

The TECNO Camon 17 Pro has been here with us for a while. TECNO officially launched this device back in May and as the successor to the CAMON 16, it comes with a lot of improvements.

One of the key selling points that TECNO has been pushing with its CAMON series is the camera. TECNO did not deviate from it with the CAMON 17 PRO.

I also need to mention that the devices in this CAMON 17 series include the regular CAMON 17 and a Pro version. TECNO Camon 17 price in Kenya starts at KES 17,499 for 4GB and 128GB of internal storage. The bigger 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM model goes for KES 19,999. The Camon 17 Pro on the other hand starts at Ksh.31,000.

In this article, we look at the CAMON 17 Pro cameras. Just how good are they?

The CAMON 17 Pro is the premier device in this series and what that means is that TECNO is offering you a superior camera experience.

We are getting a total of five cameras on this device. On the rear packs a 64-megapixel primary camera; an 8-megapixel camera; a 2-megapixel camera, and a 2-megapixel camera. There’s a 48-megapixel camera on the front for selfies.

This main camera is backed by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide and an extra pair of 2-megapixel lenses for capturing monochrome shots and depth respectively.

The shutter speed is quite responsive During the daytime, the phone produces some decent photos with realistic colors. In low-light, the Super Night mode saves the day producing some pretty impressive shots. . Check some sample shots below. (Click on image to expand)

There’s a 48-megapixel camera on the front for selfies on the TECNO Camon 17 Pro. In this day and age selfies have basically become part of lives. At the CAMON 17 launch event, TECNO went deeper into why the selfie is so central to our perception of ourselves and by extension, the world around us in a compelling documentary, titled: ‘Rise of the Selfie’.

TECNO said the improvement in mobile phone camera technology indicates the increasing role that modern smartphones play in the development of our social psychology. A case in point it said is how the development of the TECNO CAMON 17 Pro was spurred by the demands of a selfie generation in the post-pandemic era.

The selfie camera also features the same features we have on the main camera including Super Night Mode with the only one missing being wide-angles. Check some sample selfies below.

Other camera features

I also need to mention that TECNO has integrated the Google Lens integration on the camera. Google Lens enables you to point your phone at something, let’s say food, and then ask Google Assistant what the object you’re pointing at is.

There’s also something interesting, you can use your fingerprint sensor as the camera’s shutter.

We also have a comparison article between the device and the Samsung Galaxy A32. You can read about it here.
