Qualcomm Announces New Processor for High-end Premium Phones

Major smartphone brands (except Apple) rely on Qualcomm for premium chips to power their high-end smartphones. In 2020, Snapdragon 865 is the must-have processor for a smartphone to be termed as a flagship phone in Android land.

But that’s not all about it. Qualcomm has announced a new chip, featuring incremental updates to the already potent Snapdragon 865 processor. Welcome, Snapdragon 865 Plus. Typical to processor upgrades, improvements usually touch on performance and power efficiency.

Compared to the standard Snapdragon 865 platform, the Plus variant delivers a 10% increase in performance. Graphical rendering is also improved by 10 percent.

Another key upgrade is the ability to use the newly approved 6GHz WIFI band nicknamed Wi-Fi 6E. Thanks to the new Qualcomm® FastConnect™ 6900, WIFI networks can achieve a throughput speed of up to 3.6 Gbps on dual-band connectivity.

Aside from the few noticeable differences above, Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 865 Plus chip is not any different from the standard 865 chip. You’re still getting the same Snapdragon™ X55 5G Modem for 5G support, enhanced AI engine, same immersive gameplay of up to 144 fps in True 10-bit HDR, and more.

It seems we won’t be waiting for so long before a phone powered by the processor pops out. ASUS already has one under the works – next generation ROG Phone, a series tailored for gamers. Surprisingly, Lenovo is also jumping on the bandwagon with its Legion gaming smartphone series.

Folks, it seems this one is for the mobile gamers community ready with some cash to splurge on a high-end gaming smartphone.
