Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 200 Series chipset for budget-oriented devices has finally received a revamp with a successor to the obsolete Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC launched back in 2015. In the new 200 Series, Qualcomm has ditched the Snapdragon name and refers to the new chip as Qualcomm 215 mobile platform.

The chip brings along improvements in the budget smartphone category($100 and below) with new powerful ARM cores to enhance performance and additionally introduce new features to the budget level devices.

Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform is made of four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.3Ghz which brings a 50% CPU performance boost compared to its predecessor. Also, the new 200 Series now uses 64-bit architecture and is paired with an Adreno 308GPU, which the company states has a 28% boost in terms of gaming.

In terms of connectivity, Qualcomm’s new chip brings some notable features including Dual SIM with Dual VoLTE support, NFC, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Ultra HD Voice Calls.
