Infinix NOTE 8 Review

...It’s big and better

Infinix NOTE 8 Review: The Infinix NOTE 8 is official. Infinix launched this device in Kenya a couple of weeks ago and it’s selling at Ksh.21,799.

Infinix actually launched two variants of this device – The NOTE 8 which is what we will be talking about in this article, then there’s the Infinix NOTE 8i that the company is selling at  Kshs 15,999 and Kshs 17,499 for the 4/64GB and 4/128GB model respectively.

Pre-orders for the device started on October 12th but you can now buy the phones at Infinix outlets countrywide, Kilimall and Xpark.

We have been using the NOTE 8 for a couple of weeks now. It’s a beautiful phone, and also comes with a number of impressive specs compared to what we saw with its predecessor, the Infinix NOTE 7 (Review).

Its a big phone and the best that we have seen from Infinix this year. We did the unboxing video for you which you can watch below.

Everything about this phone stands out – from the design, performance and even the cameras.

We’re getting a 6.95 inch HD+ panel. The display is pretty good, basically what anyone would ask for in a 2020 budget phone. Its bright, good colours and viewing angles.

Remember the NOTE 7 had a circular quad-camera setup, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and of course the huge display which we have already mentioned earlier. Infinix decided to go with this same design just that for the NOTE 8, there is a rectangular camera bump that houses the quad-camera setup which includes a 64MP main camera, 2MP macro camera, 2MP depth camera and another additional 2MP AI lens.

Again, this 64MP lens is an upgrade from the 48MP main camera that we saw on the Infinix Note 7.

These cameras produce some pretty good results, as you can see from the sample shots below. Whether you are indoors or outdoors the camera does a good job. Same for the 16 MP + 2 MP(depth) selfie camera placed in a pill-shaped punch hole at the top of the display.

Another major upgrade that Infinix brought to the NOTE 8 is the USB Type-C located at the bottom. It finally happened guys. It’s here that you also have the microphone, headphone jack and speaker grille. On the right side, there’s the fingerprint sensor which also services as the power button and the volume buttons. On the left, we have the sim-card holder.

When it comes to performance the Infinix NOTE 8 is capable of handling everything well. We’re getting a MediaTek Helio G80 Chipset. It has 6 GB, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. What else would you ask for? The phone works smoothly with no lags or hiccups thanks to this processor. The massive storage should also be enough to store all your files.

Infinix Note 8 comes running on Android 10 and XOS 7.1. XOS, just as we have seen with all other Infinix devices, is well-optimized other than the usual apps and services that Infinix always ads on their devices. There’s still so much bloatware present and those annoying ads keep popping up which is something that I think we should just learn to live with.

For the battery, the Infinix NOTE 8 ships with a huge  5200mAh battery and as stated, we are now getting a USB-C charging port. Infinix also included an 18W fast charging which takes over 2 hours to fully charge the phone. Ok, this is just too much time. The battery when fully charged should, however, be able to last you for even a day and a half.

Should you buy the Infinix NOTE 8?

Compared to the previous NOTE, the Infinix NOTE 8 is a phone worth giving a second look. Infinix did some major upgrades to the device. It’s among the best phones we have seen from Infinix this year – good performance, good design, amazing cameras among other features.

The 5200mAh battery also does a good job. The phone can push you for the whole day and you’ll still have some juice left to push you for the next day.
