Facebook unveils new anonymous chat app ‘Rooms’

Facebook has launched a new app that will allow people to set up online chat rooms. Called ‘Rooms.’, the app will let you create a chat room community for the things you are interested in. If it is cooking, blogging, writing etc.

Unlike Facebook itself, rooms does not require people to use their real names meaning you can create a nickname to use when chatting with people.

Signing up into the  the app doesn’t require one to have a Facebook account or even an email address. It employs an innovative QR-code invite system where people take a photo or screenshot of a Room’s code to gain access.

According to Facebook’s Josh Miller, who created the app, One of the magical things about the early days of the web was connecting to people who you would never encounter otherwise in your daily life. He said the app was trying to  address complaints that Facebook forces people to use their real name when taking part in discussions.

‘One of the things our team loves most about the internet is its potential to let us be whoever we want to be, It doesn’t matter where you live, what you look like or how old you are – all of us are the same size and shape online”, he said.

According to Facebook, the primary goal of the app is to empower people.

The app is now available on the App Store.
