It’s OK to Clean and Disinfect your iPhone, Apple Says as the Coronavirus Epidemic Continues

Apple has finally given an OK to users of its products to disinfect products they own from the company. The iPhone maker has, for long, advised its users not to use disinfectants on its products, but the state of the COVID-19 outbreak requires such extreme measures to be contained.

The novel coronavirus outbreak, which is believed to have emanated from China in 2019, has infected over 110,000 people globally with the death toll standing at 3800, at the time of writing.

As anticipated Apple has also released specific guidelines that users should adhere to when cleaning their iPhone and other products. Some of those guidelines include the use of wet wipes with 70% isopropyl alcohol(right check the product ingredients well). Don’t use bleach, the company warns.

How to Clean & Disinfect your Apple Products

The Do’s

• Gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces like the display.

The Don’ts

• Avoid getting moisture in any opening.
• Don’t submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agent.
• Don’t use on fabric or leather surfaces.
• Don’t use bleach

The CDC in the US recommends users to clean and disinfect the frequently touched objects as it may help prevent the spread of the virus. The unit has also been warning people to avoid touching the mouth, nose or eyes.
