Can iPhone 8 Outperform Galaxy S8 Later This Year?

Rather you are an Apple follower or a Samsung follower, I’m sure you can agree that this is looking to be a big year for smartphone users around the globe.

As Apple approaches their 10th-anniversary in September, with plans to celebrate with the release of the highly speculated iPhone 8 – both tech companies, Apple and Samsung, are working to give each other a run for their money.

Some believe that based on rumors of the specs of the iPhone 8, it will easily outperform the Galaxy S8…

However, some who have already gotten their hands on the Galaxy S8 stand their ground that there is no way the Samsung smartphone could be beat.

To foster better grounds for decision-making, let’s take a look at the specs of each smartphone:

Galaxy S8

This new smartphone, released in April, is a dust and water proof phone (for up to 1.5 meters and 30 minutes), that features face and smile detection as well as a 3D touch (on the home button only).

The Galaxy S8 comes in a 5.8” screen size, with a 5.8” QUAD HD+ Super AMOLED (2960×1440) 570 ppi display. The infinite display utilized for the Galaxy S8 is a full-frontal, edge-to-edge screen.

As for other features included, Galaxy S8 users can expect:

  • Samsung PaySimilar to the technology of mifare cards, Samsung pay is designed to store your card information and you can simple hover your phone above the payment system, therefore it is a completely contactless form of payment.
  • Bixby – By pressing the Bixby button and then navigating to Bixby Home, users can press and hold the button to interact with Bixby using their voice. This feature is similar to the artificial intelligence (AI) used in Apple – Siri.
  • Security – In addition to face and smile detection, the Samsung Galaxy S8 also features pattern or PIN password, iris scanner, and a fingerprint scanner.
  • Audio – The new Galaxy S8 features Bluetooth, a variety of audio playback formats including MPS, recording, and ultra-high-quality audio playback: UHQ 32-bit and DSD support.

As far as the battery life, here are the specs:

  • Internet use (Wi-Fi): up to 14 hrs
  • Internet use (3G): up to 11 hrs
  • Internet use (4G): up to 12 hrs
  • Talk time: up to 20 hrs
  • MP3 playback (AOD on): up to 44 hrs
  • MP3 playback (AOD OFF): up to 67 hrs
  • Video playback: up to 16 hrs

Apple’s iPhone 8

As for the specs on the iPhone 8, all we have at this point are rumors. But, could those rumors already outperform the Galaxy S8?

Let’s see:

The new iPhone 8 is speculated to feature an edge-to-edge OLED display with an integrated Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It has also been highly speculated that Apple will do-away with the physical home button on the upcoming iPhone – rather, it will have the button built directly into the screen display.

Instead of using the aluminum – like in the iPhone 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7, and SE, the tech company will be using an all-glass body similar to that used in the iPhone 4.

Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8, it is rumored that the iPhone 8 will be water resistant.

In addition, the new phones front-facing camera might house 3D sensing capabilities which will allow the camera to find the location and depths of the objects in front of it.

Like the Galaxy S8, the iPhone 8 is also expected to have facial, iris or gesture recognition.

So, which one is it?

Ultimately, the choice is yours to make. While both phones offer impeccable features, some are more beneficial to some users, whereas others have no interest in them. The phones also share similarities such as the fingerprint scanner, payment options and AI systems offered.

And, since the iPhone 8 has not yet been released, there isn’t much evidence to make a fair judgment – however, it is possible that it could outperform the Galaxy S8 as Apple looks to make its 10th-anniversary release one of the best iPhone’s yet. It will all boil down to if Apple actually delivers on the qualities rumored – such as the 3D sensing capabilities of the front-facing camera.

Luckily, with Apple’s launch quickly approaching – you don’t have to wait long to make your decision.
