Do you own an iPhone 5? Does it run out of battery in half the time that it should? Well, then Apple is determined to help you out in a new iPhone 5 battery replacement programe.

According to a statement posted on its web page, a small percentage of iPhone 5 devices sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently.  The company wants to replace the battery for you free of charge.

”If your iPhone 5 is experiencing these symptoms and meets the eligibility requirements noted below, Apple will replace your iPhone 5 battery, free of charge.” the company said in the statement.

As of August 22, 2014, the replacement process will be available in the U.S. and China. In other countries, it will be available as of August 29, 2014.

If you had to pay to get your iPhone 5 battery replaced, the Apple says you will be eligible for a refund.

Apple was also quick to point out that this program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 5. The program covers affected iPhone 5 batteries for two years after the first retail sale of the unit or until March 1, 2015, which however provides longer coverage.
