When it comes to everything related to Android (be it major OS updates or the monthly security patches), Google always places its Pixel devices first in line. But we are used to that.
In line with the custom, Android 10 has started rolling out yesterday in Pixel devices. Although Google did not state which Pixel devices, we assume it’s the Pixel 3 series and 3a series.
Google also stated the new OS would arrive in other non-Pixel devices later before the end of the year. Sure, that is the case, but the OS is already rolling out on non-Pixel devices currently. The first non-Pixel devices to receive stable Android 10 include Essential Phone, which has been always on the forefront with updating its devices.
Earlier today OnePlus also announced that an Oxygen OS-based Android 10 Open Beta 1 is being pushed on OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro globally. Apart from the usual bug fixes, OnePlus states the new update brings the following;
- Brand new UI design
- Enhanced location permissions for privacy
- New customization feature in the Settings allowing you to choose icon shapes to be displayed in the Quick Settings
Surprisingly, Xiaomi has also started rolling out Android 10 update (stable) to the Redmi K20 Pro in both China and India. Upon launch, Redmi K20 Pro hoped into the Android 10 beta bandwagon which was an earlier indication that Xiaomi may roll out the stable build earlier than usual.
What’s New in Android 10?
The new version of Android includes many features, but one of the few highlights on the front has been on security matters. In Android 10, Google boasts “almost 50 changes related to privacy and security”.
Part of the new features includes the infamous system-wide dark mode and new location services settings that let you limit apps’ access to your location only when open.
The OS also brings Focus Mode which enables you to restrict distraction from certain apps and a Live Caption feature that transcribes audio from other apps in real-time among others. But still, some of the announced features in Google I/0 19 won’t be available in Android 10 as per now until the end of the year.
