NTV’s YouTube channel with over 2 million subscribers terminated for violating terms
NTV Kenya, a leading broadcaster in the country and the East African region had its YouTube channel brought down on Monday, February 13, for allegedly violating the platform’s terms and conditions.
The channel, which had more than 2.1 million subscribers was still inaccessible by the time of going to press. The media house is however still running the NTV Kenya Live channel on YouTube which has more than 14.000 subscribers.
It’s not clear the exact Community Service terms the company breached. YouTube only displayed a message stating: “This account has been terminated for violating YouTube’s Community Services.”
It takes a lot of time and effort to build a YouTube channel that has such a huge following. YouTube makes a good attempt at ensuring that platform users stick to the stipulated terms and conditions, which include observing copyright rules.
Punishment for violating the terms may include a permanent ban from the platform, shutting down a channel, or suspension ranging from one week or more. The company, however, informs the channel owner of the particular rules they might have violated. Channel owners have a window to appeal the punishment if they aren’t satisfied.
In 2016, Nation was in a similar situation where their YouTube channel was pulled down for violating community guidelines.
