TikTok is teasing a new music platform to rival Spotify and Apple Music
TikTok allured users with its short-video format and has fought for its place among the top-tier platforms. Its biggest anchorage is that it has captured the attention and interests of Generation Z, a section of the population whose lives are significantly influenced by social media.
The company, a subsidiary of the Chinese tech giant ByteDance, is now reportedly working on a music streaming platform known as TikTok Dance. The streaming platform is set to take the competition to Spotify and Apple Music, which are among the world’s most popular in this category.
ByteDance already runs a music streaming service named Resso, which is available in a few selected countries including India, Brazil and Indonesia. There have been indications that Resso and TikTok Music could work in sync or share close similarities.
TikTok has already taken up the website “music.tiktok.com, and gone ahead to place important information regarding music streaming services.
“Welcome to TikTok Music! TikTok Music, one of our Services defined under the TikTok Terms, is a music streaming service that allows users to listen to music.” A section of the website reads, although most pages just have place holder texts, indicating that they are still under construction.
Last year, ByteDance reported that 175 songs that premiered on the site and gained huge popularity ended up on the Billboard 100 Chart. TikTok aims to leverage this move to grow its music streaming investment.
