Water resistance is one of the most anticipated features in premium devices. Well, Samsung has been having their Galaxy S, and Note Series IP68 rated since back in 2016. IP68 rating implies that the phone can stay in 1.5m deep water for up to 30 minutes.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is allegedly taking Samsung to court for misleading consumers over its phone’s water resistance.
In a statement the ACCC chairman alleges Samsung’s advertisements mislead how Galaxy Phones “would be suitable for use in, or for exposure to, all types of water, including in ocean water and swimming pools, and would not be affected by such exposure to water for the life of the phone, when this was not the case.”
The team has already filed the lawsuit after reviewing over 300 videos from Samsung. The ACCC claims that despite the IP68 rating of the phones, the company doesn’t state that the water resistance doesn’t cover all types of water; which is the basis of the ACCC lawsuit. Samsung has already responded by saying they will stand with their marketing and plans to fight the case.
