Safaricom in partnership with Google has announced a new YouTube Data bundle. The data bundle can be used for YouTube streaming only and is touted to enable more customers to stream the wide variety of content available on the platform.
The Safaricom YouTube Data bundle will cost KES 10 for 80MB. The 80MB might sound not that but much it can do more.
You can stream half an hour of standard definition(480p) video and can even last up to an hour by switching to low definition streaming.
“Through this proposition, we want to leverage our extensive 4G coverage to ensure that customers who could not previously enjoy the power of the internet can access a new world of content in an affordable manner from the comfort of their phones. With as little as 10 shillings, customers can now learn a new skill, attend virtual concerts or keep up with their favorite local content,” said Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa.
The data bundle offer can be accessed by dialling *544#. First-time subscribers will be able to get the 80MB for free on the first day. The offer is already underway and started on 15th May 2020 and will run for 90 days to 13th August 2020.
“We are excited about this partnership with Safaricom that will make data more affordable to users in Kenya who in this current situation are looking for affordable ways to stay connected, informed and entertained,” said Mariam Abdullahi, Director, Android and Platforms Partnerships for Africa.
“This partnership will provide Kenyans the opportunity to go to YouTube daily to watch their favourite shows, listen to music, learn a skill or develop their passion with the millions of content available without the hassle of thinking of their data.”
Google partnership with Safaricom goes far from just offering ultra-cheap data bundles. The duo also unveiled a program that will enable Kenyans to get 4G phones and in return pay back as little as KES 20 a day.
