MediaTek Announces Helio G-90 and G-90T Their First-Ever Gaming-Focused SoCs

MediaTek has officially announced their two gaming-focused chipsets targeted to take on Qualcomm’s overclocked Snapdragon 855 Plus. However, unlike Qualcomm’s, MediaTek’s chipsets are targeted for mid-range smartphones. The two chipsets are the first-ever gaming-focused SoCs from the Taiwanese company.

MediaTek’s two new chipsets: the Helio G90 and the Helio G90T both feature the 12nm manufacturing architecture. Which means you are looking at a chip similar to Huawei’s Kirin or Qualcomm’s SoCs with ARM’s A76 and A55 Cores. The chips are made of a combination of ARM’s A76 and A55 cores with clocking speeds up to 2.05GHz.

Both chips are paired with a Mali G76 GPU which clocks up to 800MHz. The new chipsets bring new privileges in MediaTek’s CPU line-up which include; support for 10GB LPDDR4x RAM stick, 1080 display resolution, Bluetooth 5.0, 64MP or a pair of 24MP and 16MP sensors and UFS 2.1 type of storage.

To make the chips gaming-centric, MediaTek says their new Helio G90 SoCs have a ‘HyperEngine game technology’ which supports simultaneous dual-band WiFi connection, smooth switching from mobile to wireless networks and enhanced resource management. The chips also ensure an improved touch response, theoretically similar to what Qualcomm also stated about their Snapdragon 855 Plus.

It also includes Cat-12 LTE with up to 1Gbps download speeds and also supports dual-band 4G VoLTE and ViLTE. At the same time, as usual to MediaTek’s SoCs, both chipsets include AI capabilities which have been capitalized on together with massive memory and powerful CPUs to deliver a fast fluid experience while gaming.
