Google is launching the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones on 4th October, here’s what to expect


The month of October is almost here and Google has sent out a press invite for its biggest event scheduled to take place on 4th. The company has also released a teaser videon on the same, you can watch it above. There is so much to expect from Google as the company is set to unveil a whole host of amazing new devices.

One of the devices we should expect Google to launch is the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The two devices will be made by HTC but Google is said to have maintained tight control over the design and manufacturing process. So will Google be ditching the ”Nexus” brand for Google Pixel? Well, we are not sure but there have beem murmurs around the interwebs that indeed the company will be dropping the ”Nexus” brand in favour of ”Pixel”. Remember in the past the company has used the Pixel name on its tablet and laptop products.

What do we know so far about the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones? First, as I mentiond earlier the devices will be made by HTC. The two devices have als been codenamed Sailfih and Marlin and from the leaked specs, Google is really taking on Apple as a major player in the hardware and software space.

The leaks suggest that the Pixel phone will likely have a 5-inch screen and the Pixel XL a 5.5-inch screen. The Google Pixel is also rumoured to featu a 12-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front camera, a 4GB RAM expandable to 128, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and will run on Android 7.0 Nougat. It is also said to come with a 2,770 mAh battery.

The Google Pixel XL on the other hand is rumoured to come with a 12- or 13-megapixel rear and an 8-megapixel front camera. It come with an internal storage of 32GB, expandable to 128GB with a 4GB RAM. Just like the Pixel, it will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and will run on Android 7.0 Nougat.

About the price, the smaller Pixel might retail at around $500 which converts to around Kshs.50,000 and of course the larger Pixel will cost you more.
