Canon Launches Interview Series With African Changemakers


The story of African changemakers is slowly but surely getting the attention it deserves with organizations going out of their way to get the story told.

Canon, the renowned maker of imaging products such as cameras and printers is playing its part by telling stories from the continent. Their starting point is a documentary dubbed “Visionaries.”

“There is a tremendous wealth of talent and countless examples of pioneering excellence across Africa.” A press statement from Cannon says. “Canon will put the spotlight on those African voices, who are ushering in a new era of change.” the statement adds.

Having been in the African market for 15 years, Canon has witnessed the journey of Africa’s transformation from a vantage point. The company now wants to tell the story of African change makers as seen through the lenses of a selection of its cameras: the EOS R5, the EOS R6 and EOS C70.

Through the “Visionaries” documentary, Cannon is highlighting the stories of Africans “ushering in a new era of change.”  The documentary features three Africans heralded for their contribution and excellence in their own fields.

Nzambi Matee is a Kenya entrepreneur and environmentalist who has been recognized at the global stage for her work in recycling plastic waste into low-cost durable bricks. The bricks are stronger than concrete and have the potential to usher in a new era in the construction of affordable houses.

Ali Baba Akpobome is the most awarded Nigerian comedian who overcame great obstacles to be at the pick of his career. There is also, Hany El-Behairy, a distinguished fashion designer from Egypt. He custom-made the world’s most expensive wedding dress estimated at US $15 million.

All the interviews were recorded using three Canon three game-changing Canon cameras namely, the EOS R5, the EOS R6 and EOS C70. The series has a Behind the Scenes(BTS) segment in which film directors talk about their experience with these unrivalled Cannon products.

Cannon has had a distinguished market lead in the imaging products segment. In the African market, the company has had a market presence spanning 15 years, enabling it to build a solid network.
