Apple Rolls Out the Latest iOS 14.5 to Everyone

The update weighs 1.15GB

The anticipated iOS 14.5 is finally available for download on all iOS-14 compatible iPhones. iOS 14.5 includes Apple’s most stringent privacy features yet announced last year at WWDC. The proposed privacy changes made the company come to blows with social media giant Facebook.

Major features available in iOS 14.5 include the ability to unlock iPhone with Apple Watch, Siri improvements, new Emojis, and Privacy Controls.

App Tracking Transparency, first announced last year, is finally making its way to the iPhone, which mandates apps to ask for permission before tracking their web activities.

iOS 14.5 also enables users to unlock their iPhones with an Apple Watch, which is handy in the current pandemic setup where everyone is wearing a Face Mask. If unlocking your iPhone with Face ID fails due to the mask, you can use your linked Apple Watch instead as long as it’s nearby.

It works on iPhone X and newer, and Apple Watch Series 3 and later.

Siri is getting voice options, in addition to the default that has been available since inception.

The voice assistant also gets new functionalities like support for Group FaceTime and the ability to announce incoming calls through AirPods or select Beats headphones.

iOS 14.5 also supports AirTags, Apple’s recently launched tracking devices a la Samsung Smart Tags.

Other updates include Dual-SIM support for 5G connectivity and Smart Data Mode enhancements for iPhone 12 series and a UI redesign for Apple Podcasts and Apple Fitness+. You will also see improvements to Reminders with the ability to sort by title, priority, due date, or creation date, and an option to print reminder lists.
