7 African tech podcasts you should be listening to right now

African tech podcasts: I am a heavy consumer of podcasts and one of my favourite things to do while working or even driving back home after work is listening to podcasts.

My podcast library has podcasts like ABC News Specials, South Africa’s crime podcast Murder, and Mayhem, Conspiracy Theories, and The Dropout among others.

Locally, I have been hooked to podcasts like Legally Clueless, Safaricom Newsroom, and The Moses Kemibaro podcast. I am still on the lookout for more local podcasts to add to my library so you can suggest some in the comments section of this article.

First things first, what’s the podcast market like in Africa?

Africa Podfest and Baraza Media Lab in a report released last year have some quite interesting insights. The report notes that the average listener of a podcast is between 24 and 30 years old. It also revealed that more women than men listen to podcasts and that the most listened-to platform is Spotify leading with 35.1% of those surveyed.

One finding that caught my eye was that a large number of Africans listen to podcasts from their own country as opposed to other African countries.

The report covered Africa’s largest podcast markets i.e. Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.

Tech Podcasts in Africa

As someone who also tracks and reports on tech in Africa, I have also been trying to listen to some tech podcasts in the region.

Below is a list of some that I discovered. This list covers podcasts that have at least uploaded an episode this month.

African Tech Round-Up

The African Tech Roundup is quite an interesting one. The podcast hosts have a deeper understanding of tech in Africa.

Their latest episode ‘’Can AI be trusted’’ is a good listen so this is s podcast you should definitely add to your library.

You can find them on Apple Podcasts, and Spotify among other platforms.

TechPoint Africa

TechPoint Africa takes a very important approach to podcasting. This is a podcast about the most important tech stories of the week.

This includes startups, technology, and innovation in Africa, most of which have been covered on the TechPoint Africa publication.

You can listen to them on Apple, Google, and, SoundCloud.

24Bit Podcast

24Bit podcast is actually our own in-house podcast. Would you believe we have actually been running this podcast since 2018?

The podcast is an ongoing conversation on technology by Kenyan tech bloggers Emmanuel Chenze, Dickson Otieno, and myself Nixon Kanali. Join us every week as we discuss all the trending technology topics.

This is a South African-based podcast hosted by tech journalist Duncan McLeod. If you want to get the latest South African-focused technology shows all in one place, then this is the podcast for you.

The podcast features interviews with newsmakers, ICT industry leaders, and other interesting people.

It’s available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts, among other streaming platforms.

The Moses Kemibaro Podcast

Earlier on I mentioned that this is one of the Kenyan podcasts I follow closely.  This podcast is hosted by Moses Kemibaro and features insightful interviews and conversations on all things digital from across Africa.

One of my favorite episodes of the podcast is a conversation with Sendy’s CEO Meshack Alloys On Building A Pan-African Digital Logistics Business.

You can find the podcast on Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify among other platforms.

TechTalk Africa Podcast

This is another podcast that I have been following closely since late last year. Hosted by Jessy, the podcast features all conversations on technology.

In their description, they say they are bridging tech and its consumers one conversation at a time.
