If you’re an admin of a WhatsApp group you must really be finding it hard to deal with those annoying friends in the group. Let’s say you opened a group to plan for a road trip or a friends wedding, but then there this one or two friends who are always sharing funny memes of always insulting others. Well, good news for you, WhatsApp will now allow you to silence them.
WhatsApp has rolled out a new update that will allow group admins to select whether all participants or only admins can send messages on the group. Basically, the admins now have the powers to control who sends messages on the group.
‘’Today, we’re launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group.’’ WhatsApp said in a blog post.
To enable this setting, open “Group Info,” tap Group Settings > Send Messages. Once they click on the ‘Send Message’ option, the admins will be able to choose from the two available options – All Participants and Only Admins. WhatsApp says this setting is rolling out to all users around the world on the latest supported versions of the app.
This update comes just a month after WhatsApp added Group Description, a short blurb found under group info that allows you to set the purpose, guidelines, or topics for the group. When a new person joins a group, the description will show up at the top of the chat. All these updates are available for both Android and iOS users.
”One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centers, and non-profit organizations. We’ve introduced this new setting so admins can have better tools for these use cases.”
