Twitter’s new button lets people DM you straight from your website

Twitter has launched a new embeddable message button that will allow people to easily send you a direct message from your website.

This new button joins Twitter’s other embeddable buttons for website owners including tweet grids, buttons for following and mentioning accounts and timelines. This means, there will be no need for people visiting your website to go to your profile to follow you on twitter.

To use the new message button you will first be required to visit this page and find the option under ‘Twitter Buttons’. Add your handle or URL and your Twitter user ID which you can get from settings.  Next step will be to copy the auto-generated code and paste it into your website, and you will be good to go.

One thing, though, you will have to set your twitter to be able to receive direct messages from anyone. The feature is available under Security and Privacy settings for your account.

The message feature can also be customized, you can add a text as well as choose the language you want the button label to be displayed.

The addition of the Message button for websites probably aimed at encouraging Twitter users to send direct messages to businesses, instead of sending them direct tweets.
