TECNO Mobile Kenya last month raised Kshs.356,680 to support the Arise Child Development Organization, a Childrens home in Nairobi. The amount was raised during a cocktail party held by the company at the Sankara hotel on the 25th September to show appreciation to its customers and business partners as well as expose the public to TECNO’s new premium and flagship smartphone, the TECNO Phantom 5.
The smartphone was launched in Kenya in September at a colourful event held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi. The Phantom 5 is TECNO’s first 4G enabled device as the company looks into tapping better into Kenya’s market share which now stands at 18.5%, making it the second in Kenya.
The Phantom 5 promises the best Android experience for users with the Android 5.0 and access to latest applications. The phone is currently available across the country in all TECNO and TECNO official distributors shops.
On this day however, the company was here to show appreciation to its customers and business partners as well raise money for the Children’s home. Located in Ngando slums, Dagoretti area in Nairobi, Arise Child Development Organization which also doubles up as a learning and rehabilitation centre helps orphaned children and other young people into becoming responsible people in to the society.
Guests attending the event were requested to donate any amount toward the support of the organization, TECNO Mobile would in return award them with a selfie stick. They managed to raise the Kshs.356,000 with TECNO Mobile promising to double the final figure raised by the guests.
The Arise for Child initiative was started to mitigate the increase in cases of child abuse, neglect and also to give the orphaned children in the slums an opportunity to grow up in a conducive environment. This need was necessitated by the fact that Ngando slum, where the organization is based has seen an increase in orphaned children. This is due to the high number of HIV/AIDS cases and also the high poverty rate being experienced in the area that has led to children being abused and neglected.
Currently, the organization runs programs that host 120 children who are orphaned, from poor background, neglected, abused and abandoned. 31 of this needy children are supported at the organization while the other 89 feed, go to school and get psycho-social support for their well-being at the centre and go back to their homes where they stay with their parents and guardians.
The organization also has learning centre at Primary School level that offers education to children between baby class and class six.
The money raised will go towards supporting the children’s home activities in helping children in the slums.
