TECNO Mobile has partnered with ActionAid and donated Ksh.2 million towards the school feeding program in Kajiado County.
The donation comes just a month after the two partners donated food and other assorted items to residents of Daaba in Isiolo county, one of the hardest hit areas by the ongoing drought. They donated foodstuffs, water tanks and sanitary kits including sanitary pads, soap, and lotion for women worth Ksh.2 million to 425 households in the county.
ActionaAid Kenya is one the leading anti-poverty Non-governmental organization in Kenya and has been working in the country since 1972. The organization is currently offering humanitarian assistance to over one million underprivileged Kenyans across 14 counties in Kenya.
The donation was made to five schools in Kajiado County and it included; food stuffs, water tanks, sanitary towels for the girls, and sports attires. Kajiado is one of the counties ravaged by drought. The county also suffers from societal challenges such as Female Genital Mutilation.
In February, the Kenyan government declared that current drought affects 23 arid and semi-arid counties and pockets of other areas a national disaster, with Isiolo County being among the 13 most affected counties.
More than 1.3 million Kenyans are currently facing starvation and are in dire need of relief food and according to Kenya Red Cross, the number is likely to rise to 2.5 million by April 2017
Other counties affected by the drought include; Baringo, Turkana, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Kwale, Kilifi, Makueni, Samburu, West Pokot, Kwale, Tharaka Nithi, and Marsabit among others.
TECNO Mobile came out to support three regions in the affected areas. The first phase of the school feeding campaign was in Isiolo County. The school feeding program in Kajiado County is the second phase of the project.
TECNO says it remains fully committed to supporting the program.
