United States of America Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump “would be a disaster for innovation” if he is elected to office,  a group technology CEOs, founders, and executives have said.

In a letter, signed by the over 100 technology leaders and published on Thursday, the leaders said Trump will kill the country’s innovation which is the envy of the world.

“We stand against Donald Trump’s divisive candidacy and want a candidate who embraces the ideals that built America’s technology industry: freedom of expression, openness to newcomers, equality of opportunity, public investments in research and infrastructure, and respect for the rule of law.” the letter read.

They said Trump’s campaign was based bigotry, fear of new ideas and new people, and a fundamental belief that America is weak and in decline. ‘’We have listened to Donald Trump over the past year and we have concluded: Trump would be a disaster for innovation. His vision stands against the open exchange of ideas, free movement of people, and productive engagement with the outside world that is critical to our economy — and that provide the foundation for innovation and growth.’’

The attack on Trump according to an article published on Fortune is a highly visible and unusual attack—at least during a typical presidential campaign—against Trump over his proposed immigration policies, bombastic comments about race and religion, and his repeated insults against women.

The technology leaders in particular takes issues with Trump’s proposed immigration policy.  They say great ideas come from all parts of society, and we should champion that broad-based creative potential. Progressive immigration policies they say help America attract and retain some of the brightest minds on earth . ‘’His reckless disregard for our legal and political institutions threatens to upend what attracts companies to start and scale in America. He risks distorting markets, reducing exports, and slowing job creation. ‘’ the letter further reads.

‘’We stand against Donald Trump’s divisive candidacy and want a candidate who embraces the ideals that built America’s technology industry: freedom of expression, openness to newcomers, equality of opportunity , public investments in research and infrastructure, and respect for the rule of law’’

The letter has been signed by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, former Twitter executive Katie Jacobs Stanton, eBay founder Pierre Omidyar among others.
