The first edition of the Social Media Week independent (SMWi) conference is set to take place on September 12-16, 2016 in Nairobi. Themed ‘Harness the power of technology and social media to transform businesses, culture and lives’; it aims to feature innovations and provide insights into how social media and technology are changing businesses and cultures globally.
The long week event will have exhibitions and plenary sessions taking place at Kenya International Conference Center (KICC ) while workshops and master classes will be held at iLab Africa at Strathmore University.
Likewise, the hyped occasion will also be held in other cities like London, Rome, Sao Paulo, Miami and Mumbai concurrently with Nairobi thus stimulating discussions on Digital and Social Media Advertising.
Social Media continues to be used as an effective tool to build traffic that can later be converted to revenue, to determine consumer buying trend and behavior, monitor feedback and adjust products and services accordingly. According to statistics, there are 5.5 million Facebook users, 1.5 million twitter users and 2.5 million daily internet subscribers in Kenya.
The Social Media Week is a global event that is organized four times a year in February, June, September and November.
On July 13, 2016, a pre launch occasion was held for Social Media Week independent (SMWi) Partners at Serena Hotel in Nairobi. The panelists discussed the role of social media in businesses.
