Samsung launches the Samsung Z2 device in Kenya


Samsung Electronics East Africa has today launched Samsung Z2, its first 4G enabled Tizen-powered smartphone in Kenya. The device has been built on the Tizen platform and according to Samsung, it caters for the entry level market

The Samsung Z2 is the successor of the previous Z1 and comes with a 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Quad-core processor and features dual SIM support and a 1500mAh battery.

“As mobile data subscription grows in Kenya, the consumer is now looking at accessing high-speed data made possible by the roll-out of 4G services telcos. Access to the high-speed data needs to be restricted to the mid and high-end devices.” Jung Hyun Park, Vice President and Managing Director of Samsung Electronics East Africa said during the launch.

He added that the Z2 is a testament of what Samsung had promised consumers to provide affordable 4G-enabled devices this year. He also called on developers to start developing mobile applications for the Tizen OS, since Samsung is planning on bringing in more devices running on the new Samsung-owned OS.

Samsung Z2 will be available in Black and Gold colors and will retail price of Ksh 5,999 from Safaricom outlets across the country.
