There’s a reason we all need the new Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III camera: our bodies have become too precious to bear the neck-punishing weight of a clunky DSLR.

Okay maybe not, but the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III camera, crafted in aluminium, claims to you top quality performance for a fraction of the weight of some DSLRs. Definitely for photographers who want both serious imaging and extreme portability.

The latest addition to the Cyber-shot camera family features an upgraded lens and faster image processor (by three times) as compared to its predecessors. In addition to a retractable OLED Tru-Finder with ZEISS T coating, the third RX100 comes with enhanced movie features and a 180-degree tilting LCD screen.

Since we’re living in an age of selfies, we’re intrigued its 3.0-type Xtra Fine LCD that now flips up 180 degrees for effortless arms-length portraits. It’s perfect when you want to work that angle, whether it’s from a high or low position.

Besides its 20.1MP 1.0-type back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor and Intelligent Active Mode that minimises the effects of camera shake, the RX100 III camera also boasts a newly-added 4K still image output, which allows photo viewing on 4K TVs.

To sweeten the deal, Sony’s also introduced a range of free and paid-for PlayMemories Camera Apps that let you improve your photography quality with effects, filters, utilities and more.

But you have to hang on to your horses for a few days more. The Cyber-shot RX100 III will be available from June, and pricing hasn’t been announced yet. We’d imagine it’ll fall close to the four-figure mark, however – so start saving
