Nokia-Branded Android devices to Launch in Q4 2016

Rumours about Nokia working on an Android device have been all over online tech platforms for quite some time now.  What we didn’t know is the company was actually very serious about this idea, and that the Nokia Android device might be coming sooner than we expected.

So how soon are we going to see Android powered Nokia tablets and smartphones in the market? According to the president of the joint management team at Nokia China, Mike Wang, Nokia will launch three to four Nokia-branded devices in the fourth quarter of this year.

When Nokia entered into a deal with Microsoft, Nokia was restricted from launching any devices under its brand name. The agreement in the deal, however, expires this year meaning Nokia will now be free to launch products under the Nokia brand name.

So what are we looking at here, rumours suggest that the company is already working on two high-end Android devices and will run on Google’s latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS. The same rumours suggest that one of the devices will be sporting a 5.2-inch display and the other a 5.5-inch one. Both are apparently also going to feature specs like a 2K OLED resolution and Snapdragon 820 processor. Again, Nokia has not come out to confirm these rumours.

Nokia was one of the biggest brands in the phone market, the company has however seen its ups and downs. Disruption from companies like Samsung and Apple, however, saw the company being unable to keep up with the pace of the changing smartphone industry.

It will be interesting to see how these new devices will fair with Android. We will be keeping an eye on these developments and share any news we come across, including leaked features of course.
