iflix launches its Subscription Video on Demand (SVoD) service in Kenya

Internet TV service for emerging markets iflix has finally launched its services in Kenya. The launch comes just weeks after the Subscription Video on Demand (SVoD) service completed a $133 million funding round as it continues to deliver on its vision of bringing the world’s best entertainment to its audiences.

From today, consumers in Kenya can sign up for a 30-day free trial via the iflix’s website, giving them unlimited access to thousands of the world’s best TV shows, movies and more on every device they own, with no credit card required and no obligations.

The company is working with over 170 studio and distributor partnerships to offer subscribers the largest selection of iconic, critically acclaimed TV series and fan-favorite films both internationally and locally available in the region for a monthly retail subscription of only KSH 260.

“We are incredibly excited to bring iflix’s world class service to Kenya. With the largest selection of the best TV shows and movies from all over the world, iflix is primed to revolutionize the way we as Kenyans consume entertainment.” Paul Coogan, iflix Kenya Country Manager said.

iflix is expected to bring some stiff competition to Netflix and Showmax whose retail subscription is between KSH 1100 and KSH 600 respectively in the local market.

“What makes Iflix different to other Internet TV Service providers is the great and intimate appreciation that we have for our consumers. From our content mix to our focus on localization- our consumers and their needs are key” Paul Coogan added.

iflix subscriptions will include unlimited access to iflix’s vast library of thousands of first-run exclusive shows, award-winning TV series, blockbuster movies, popular local and regional content, children’s programs and much more. It will also include access to iflix on up to 5 devices at once, including phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, TVs and other connected devices and allow users to download TV shows and movies to any phone, tablet or mobile device to binge-watch offline, when not connected to the Internet. Users will also be able to share their iflix subscription with family or friends and watch shows on two different devices at the same time.

Since going live in May 2015, iflix rapidly established a clear leadership position in emerging markets, setting a new standard for delivering a world-class streaming entertainment service, passionately focused on local customer experiences. Over the last 12 months, the service has seen extraordinary growth across all segments of the business, expanding from four markets to 19 across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The company has additionally built deep integrated distribution partnerships with 27 leading telecommunications operators to bundle the iflix service with customers’ mobile and data subscriptions, all sponsored by the telecommunications provider.

Well, it will be interesting to see how the success of iflix will look like but its presence in Kenya should definitely make movie lovers like me excited.
