Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign reportedly hacked

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign was reportedly hacked on Friday during an attack on the Democratic party.  The hack came just a day after Hillary officially became the party’s presidential candidate on Thursday.

According to US media reports, the latest hack follows two data breaches involving the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. This is the third time the party is being hacked.

You can guess who the leading suspect is, Russia with some fearing the hack is aimed at influencing the outcome of the forthcoming elections. Earlier last week, Hillary Clinton’s competitor Donald Trump was quoted by the US media calling on Russia to hack Clinton’s campaign, although he later dismissed it as sarcasm. The Russian government has however come out denying their involvement in the hacking.

On Friday, Clinton’s campaign said an analytics data program maintained by the DNC, and used by their campaign and a number of other entities, was assessed as part of the DNC hack.  Though they insisted there was no evidence that their internal systems had been compromised.

On the eve of the convention hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee were leaked. The hack even led to the resignation of the party’s chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

According to the BBC, hackers may have been able to access the Democrats’ political strategy documents as well as opposition research conducted against Republican candidates.

The FBI is said to be currently investigating the hacking allegations and its extent.
