Four arrested for operating cable TV services illegally in Eldoret


Four people have been arrested for illegally operating an illegal television operator in Eldoret town.

The four were arrested after officers from Communication Authority’s Western Regional office accompanied by security officers raided the Matuchhaya Cable Limited offices, located in Khetia Garments Building along Moi Street, Eldoret.

The suspects were arraigned before an Eldoret court today and charged with operating a television cable station without a licence contrary to Section 24 (b) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act,1998.

Over 60-satellite decoders and receivers, a fibre optic transmitter, about13 Encoders and 52 modulators were recovered in the operation. The business is estimated to serve over 250 clients.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the offence and were released on a bond of Ksh1 Million. The case will be mentioned on February 1 and heard on March16 this year.
