Andela Kenya reaches out to aspiring developers in different counties

Andela Kenya is now reaching out to aspiring developers outside Nairobi. The tech company that trains developers in Africa and hires them out to global tech companies has for the last 2 months carried out a series of events dubbed “Andela Tech-ing Over” across the country.

Taking place in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru and Eldoret, the company says the “Andela Tech-ing Over” events are part of its focus on further widening their reach to attract even more young talent to apply for full-time software developer roles.  In 2017 Andela has hired over 100 developers in Kenya alone, and is now home to over 300 employees since its launch in the country in June 2015.

According to Joshua Mwaniki, Country Director at Andela Kenya “In an increasingly digital world, we have a unique opportunity to meet both the needs of the global tech community, while equipping the continent with brilliant engineers who have experiences of working as part of world-class companies around the globe, producing cutting-edge products.”

Interested applicants take an aptitude test, a technical test then go through interviews and finally a simulated sprint where they get to engage in product development before they are hired by Andela.

Developers recruited and hired by Andela join as full-time software developers where they get to accelerate their expertise and work with software engineering teams in leading companies such as Master Card Labs and Viacom, to mention but a few, and in the process become technology leaders themselves.

Founded in 2014 in Nigeria, Andela has raised a total of $80M in venture funding, $40M of which was a Series C round, announced in October 2017. This latest round of investment was led by pan-African venture firm CRE Venture Capital two weeks after it announced a new partnership with Google to launch the Andela Learning Community (ALC 2.0) program in Kenya. Earlier investors who also participated in this round include the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Spark Capital and Google Ventures.

Having over 500 developers across Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda, Andela plans to expand in 2018 aiming at 2 additional African countries as well as doubling the developers to 1000.

Joshua Mwaniki adds “Brilliance is evenly distributed; that’s our belief at Andela. We’re keen in 2018 to find and invest in communities of technical talent across the country.”

During the “Andela Tech-ing Over”  the company says it reached over 1000 aspiring developers as it seeks to extend its reach in 2018.

  1. Thank You TechTrendsKE for the awesome info. Question? Can a completely new person wishing to learn everything about learning developing, coding, and programming be taken by Andela or they only need those who have gone to school? 🙂 I will appreciate feedback. Asante!
