Airtel celebrates Iftar with Muslim communities in Nairobi

In the spirit of the Ramadan festive season, Airtel Kenya yesterday evening hosted a special Iftar dinner for the Muslim community at the Jamia Mosque in Nairobi Central Business District.

The Iftar dinner was graced by Airtel Kenya’s CEO Adil El Youssefi, Chief Commercial Officer Abdallah Khamis, Jamia Mosque chairman Mohammed Osman Warfa and senior Muslim leaders and scholars. Also in attendance were Airtel directors and members of staff.

Iftar is the evening meal when Muslims end the daily Ramadan fast. The meal, shared at sunset, is a time when families gather to celebrate what they have and reflect on the less fortunate.

The company has also announced that it will donate water and dates to thirty Mosques; twenty of them here in Nairobi and five in Kisumu as well as one children’s home in Nairobi, as part of its support to Muslim faithfuls as they break their fast during this holy month.

“Airtel Kenya appreciates the significance of this fasting season among the Muslim community. Our visit to the Mosques and continued support to the Muslim community is testimony to our pledge to continue making a difference in the lives of our customers and especially now, in the lives of our Muslim brothers and sisters as they mark this fasting month of Ramadan.” Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said when he joined the Muslim community for the iftar amia Mosque.

“We welcome your kind gesture and appeal to other corporates to emulate this remarkable spirit of sharing that Airtel Kenya has continuously exhibited not only to the Muslims but also to other entities.” Jamia Mosque Chairman Sheikh Mohammed Osman Warfa said

During the Ramadhan period, Muslim faithfuls on the Airtel network will be able to have access to the Islamic Religious Portal where they can subscribe and access Qur’an recitations, receive prayer alerts and listen to Khutbah and prayers live from Makka among others. One can subscribe to the portal by dialing 0900730786 or sending the word START to 30786.
