Bonjour Idée launches first African edition of the Startup of the Year competition


Bonjour Idée, the collaborative magazine for startups has launched the first African edition of the Startup of the Year competition. This comes after two successful editions of the competition were held in France with 2700 startups taking part.

Bonjour Idée has teamed up with OCP Group the world leader in the phosphate markets and its derivatives as well as a committed player for sustainable agriculture in Africa.

The competition, calls on African startups or international startups willing to settle in Africa to apply for a chance to win grants in different awards categories. The categories include Startup of the Year/Africa 2017, The Publics Awards, The Partners Special awards and others.

The winner of the Startup of the year 2017 award will walk away with a €10,000 cheque and will also get a chance to be featured on the Bonjour Idée website and other press material. The Public’s award winner will, on the other hand, receive a €2,000 from Qwant and a €10000 Visibility Pack offered by Bonjour idée & Branding of Qwant’s homepage.

The Partners special award winner will get a €5,000 cheque and €10,000 Visibility Pack offered by Bonjour idée while the African Diaspora Special Award which rewards the best startup created by a worldwide member of African Diaspora will receive a cheque for €2,000 offered by bonjour idée and 10000€ Visibility Pack offered by Bonjour idée.

The competition is free and open to all startups. The startups must, however, have legal status (a registration number will be required), must be headquartered in Africa to be chosen as the “African Startup of the Year” and for “OCP Agritech Special Award”. No geographical restrictions for the other awards are required. The Startup foundation date must also be from 1 January 2010.

The application ends on 31st December and voting by the public to determine the top 100 startups starts from 2nd to 15th January. The award ceremony will be held on 26th January 2017 in Casablanca, Morocco.
